While its many water hazards and few trees set it apart, it truly finds its individuality in the number of holes which convey characteristics of a traditional links layout. American golf course architect Joseph Lee was given the responsibility for setting out the Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course in Vilamoura over low-lying coastal terrain, and in this setting was able to establish 18 holes which offer a wide variety of playing conditions.
The course has been continually improved since the first ball was struck in 1990, although it retains all of the appeal of a modern test of golf, through which the strategic positioning of bunkers and a number of water obstacles demand accuracy of play. Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course shares a well-proportioned and welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium Golf Course.

The par-72 Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course in Vilamoura, Portugal, is often asserted that the creation of the Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course was pivotal in cementing the status of this region as one of Europe’s most-visited and best-loved for golf. Opened in the year 2000 - comprising nine brand new holes and a refurbished inward half which had previously formed part of the original 27-hole Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course - this is a more open course that its neighbours, although holes 3-7 wind between pine trees.
For many, this stretch bears a resemblance to fairways of Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club and Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course, where landing areas grow narrower, requiring greater accuracy. A number of lakes, particularly interestingly on 17 and 18, enrich the remaining holes of the Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course, where a simple course strategy is always the best approach.

In the heart of Vilamoura lies the Grande Dame of Algarve courses, Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club. As one of the first established layouts in the region, the Frank Pennink-design is well regarded throughout the golfing world.
The Old Course is located in the Vilamoura area and is the second oldest golf course in the Algarve. Set in an umbrella pinewood and laid out in an interesting way to take advantage of the natural contours. It is from the English school of Course design. The first holes are easy and inviting with reachable par 4s. The par 3 on the attractive fourth is a Hole in One potential. Selection of club from here will play an important part of your game, and straight shots will be needed. The ninth is an excellent example of this situation. The back nine has three interesting par 5s. The sixteenth hole provides a 522 metre challenge for a shot of good length and hitting straight.

Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course
The second golf course to call Vilamoura home, Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course was opened for play in 1976 and owes its personality to both the original designer Frank Pennink, who also turned his hand to Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club nearby, and Robert Trent Jones Sr. who made a number of significant refinements in 1985.
Pinhal Golf Course is situated in Vilamoura as a sister to the other four golf courses. It is laid out through the pine tree forest and is set back from the tourist beach area. The outward nine holes wander through the holiday villas that line the fairways. The well positioned bunkers make the course very enjoyable for the players, testing their choice of clubs and their accuracy. The Par 4 on the fourth hole is difficult to achieve with water waiting for the erring shot. The Par 3 on the eighth of 149 metres is also trickier than it first appears. The back nine-holes have a more open feel but the slightly altered fifteenth will cause a problem to meet the Par 4 it requires.

At the time of creation, Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course was hailed as the most ambitious golf project Portugal had ever witnessed. Designed by true golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, there is absolutely no doubt that it has lived up to that lofty billing. This course has hosted the Portugal Masters since 2007 and received the world championship in 2005.
The important championship Victoria Golf Course situated in the holiday resort of Vilamoura. It is laid out over virtually flat terrain covering some 90 hectares it includes a series of constructed mounds specially landscaped to emulate the outline of inland hills on the horizon. This is a feature that enriches the course with a sense of movement and harmony. The series of beautiful lakes and waterfalls also helps to provide an attractive background whilst playing the course. The Victoria Course is used every year for the Portugal Master which is an event on the European Tour.
