Filey Golf Club was established in 1897. The original course was on land north of this fine old North Yorkshire fishing town.
The course moved to its present site on the south side of town two years later. The “new links” design is credited to James Braid, and examples of his design features can be seen on the course.
It has been suggested that Dr Alister Mackenzie, during his period of residence in Leeds, made amendments to the original design.
The course has been modified to consider modern technology but retains the original Braid layout.
The purchase of adjoining land has allowed the club to incorporate a nine-hole short course into its facilities.

The unwary can be forgiven for standing on the 1st tee and being deceived by the apparent gentleness of the view across the course.
The Course & Clubhouse are surrounded by magnificent and panoramic views of the North Sea, including both lighthouses, the original of which, known as the Old Beacon, was built circa 1674 and is the only known example in England and can be found on the course next to the 5th tee.
