Scarborough North Cliff Golf Course
Course was designed by the celebrated Scottish golfer and five times winner of the British Open Championship James Braid (1870 – 1950). Braid, born in Earlsferry, Fife, won his first Open title in 1901 and went on to become the first of ‘The Great Triumvirate’ of Braid, Harry Vardon and J H Taylor to win 5 titles (1903, 1905-6, 1908 and 1910).
 
Horace Hutchinson said that Braid had a ‘drive with divine fury’ and he pioneered the explosion shot from sandy bunkers....

Although Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club dates back to 1909, the present course was designed by James Braid and established in 1928.
 
A fabulous photo which we’ve been made aware. It is taken at where North Cliff Golf Club was originally located, the site of what was later Mr. Marvels (Zoo & Marineland) and the Open Air Theatre, looking down over Peasholm Park.
